Romans 13:4

What does it mean to follow Jesus in a world of governments, elections, political polarization and competing loyalties? Romans 13 tells us that governing authorities exist for our good—but the Bible also makes it clear that our allegiance belongs ultimately and exclusively to Christ. How do we honour those in authority without giving them the devotion that belongs to God? And what does it look like for the church to seek the good of our neighbours without turning the gospel into a political project? This Sunday, we’ll explore Article 12 of the Mennonite Brethren Confession: Society and State—and discover why following Jesus changes the way we think about both government and our role in society.
